The Department of Thoracic and Upper GI Surgery at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital is an integrated unit consisting of two Thoracic and two Upper GI surgeons who all work closely together and often jointly on complex cases.
We have a special interest in malignant diseases of the oesophagus, stomach and lung, and are a designated specialist oesophago-gastric centre, serving the South-West Peninsula.
Currently we are pioneering minimally invasive (keyhole surgery) techniques in the treatment of thoracic and upper GI diseases, including Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomy (MIO) for oesophageal cancer.
